It’s Not “Just Getting Old”: The Importance of Restoring Musculoskeletal Balance
By Karalyn Bord, LMT, RYT, Reiki II
What I have learned in trainings and experienced over 20 years working with thousands of bodies is that when the musculoskeletal system (soft and connective tissue) becomes imbalanced due to repetitive stress, lack of physical activity, mental stress, or trauma held in the tissue, injury will occur.
I’ve heard many people refer to these injuries as just “getting old.”
“All I did was bend over to pick something up off the floor and my back went out.”
In so many of these situations, the imbalance was building for years and that one movement was just the last straw.
When we don’t address the small tensions and misalignments in our body, they accumulate. Over time, that unbalanced state puts excessive pressure on certain muscles, joints, and connective tissue, until one day, something gives.
The good news? When we actively work to restore balance on a daily basis through exercise, massage and bodywork meditation or mindfulness techniques, we become much less susceptible to these kind of injuries.
Our bodies are capable of healing, adapting, and thriving, at any age, when we give them the right support.
