Salt Therapy for Stress

How can Salt Therapy help your stress?

The salt room here at Vivify is stress-reducing on multiple levels.  Exposure to salt therapy also has a two-fold benefit.

Salt and Negative Ions

Firstly, the kinetic energy produced by the Halogenerator (a piece of machinery that grinds up pharmaceutical-grade Himalayan salt) is enough to split up the sodium chloride elements and create negative ions. Ions are charged (either positively or negatively) invisible particles that occur naturally in the air.  Negative ions in the air are commonly found in nature, at the beach, waterfalls, or after a rainstorm. Our environments these days are overly full of positive ions (also called ‘free radicals’), which are produced by screens and gadgets of all kinds as a byproduct of being plugged in. The cells in our bodies generally carry a negative charge. When negative ions reach our bloodstream, they are believed to neutralize free radicals and produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin. This is helpful in alleviating depression, relieving stress, and boosting our daytime energy.  Because the salt particles have a negative charge and a high surface energy, they penetrate the internal airways more deeply, bonding with positive ions and calming the internal muscles while the nervous system re-balances.

Salt is a Natural Detoxifier

Secondly, our bodies are constantly fighting a battle to maintain internal homeostasis (balance).  Our immune systems are always attempting to control or eliminate the germs, allergens, chemicals and toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis. When we are physically taxed in this way, and emotionally or mentally taxed by work or personal stressors, we often feel worn out and fatigued.  The natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of salt when inhaled help reduce the body’s toxic load, which gives relief to our overburdened immune system. Because salt is also super-absorbent, the salt particles act like a sponge, absorbing foreign substances in our system and helps our bodies eliminate them. A healthy and well-balanced body has a better ability to deal with stress and is able to recharge physically and mentally during sleep.

We Want You To Be Stress Free

Here at Vivify we kick-start the stress-free experience as soon as you enter the room. You will immediately notice the soft amber glow given off by the Himalayan salt wall directly in front of you.  The temperature is climate controlled and cool, and it is well furnished with padded adjustable loungers, and blankets if you get a chill. We pipe in your choice of gentle instrumental music, nature sounds or a guided meditation.  This is an electronics-free zone, as salt is corrosive to metal, but you are encouraged to read a book or simply lay back and close your eyes. During your salt therapy session, you are encouraged to breathe deeply (also a common relaxation technique) to get full exposure to the salt.
