How Does Reiki Work?
It is said that life force energy nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When this life force energy is disrupted, it can lead to diminished function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
Life force energy is also responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when we accept, consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life force energy.
A Reiki practitioner balances one’s life force energy by sending in positive energy to straighten and heal disrupted energy pathways. The positive energy goes where it is needed for healing. A Reiki practitioner’s hands usually hover slightly off the body. Reiki does not require direct touch, but can involve light, gentle pressure if desired. It is important to remember that Reiki can never cause harm.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It involves the balancing of the human biofield. The term “biofield” is the word chosen by a team of National Institute of Health scientists in 1994 to describe the field of energy and information that surrounds and interpenetrates the human body. It is composed of both measurable electromagnetic energy and hypothetical subtle energy, or chi. It is also referred to as “life force energy”. If one’s life force energy is low, than the likelihood of sickness or stress can increase. In contrast, if it is high, one is more capable of feeling happy and healthy.
Is Reiki Effective?
Reiki has a multitude of anecdotes in favor of how effective it can be. For some, this answer is enough. For others, they want the hard scientific evidence. However, it is difficult for scientists to actually study the effects of Reiki. Researchers are currently unable to come up with a solid method of measuring biofields, but they are close. Nonetheless, Reiki has been found to reduce anxiety, pain, and increase relaxation.
