How to Reboot Your Life
By: Kelly Allen, RYT-500, UZIT
We shut down and restart the computer when it tells us to (usually… :D). When our phones start slowing down and request time to run updates, we begrudgingly set them down and give them time to refresh.
Why don’t we do the same for ourselves? With the intensity and fast pace of the world around us, we are easily worn down if we don’t make self-care a priority.
Tips to Reboot Your Life:
Set Yourself Up for Sleep:
Start this one just one night a week. Eat your last meal 2-3 hours before you want to be asleep. Turn the TV and your phone off one hour before bed. Get your bedroom ready for sleep; make sure your blankets aren’t jumbled up, tidy up a little bit, make sure your room is dark and cool. Apply a little lavender oil to your chest and neck. When you are ready to lay down, take a deep breath, hold for 4 counts, and then exhale deeply. Do this 10 times. See how you feel the next day.
Clean Up Your Diet:
It can be tough to eat healthy if you are always on the go, but see if you can make clean eating stick for just one week and see how you feel. Cut out as much refined sugar and processed foods as you can, and replace them with fresh fruits and vegetables. Drink enough water (the 8 8-oz glass, or half-gallon rule). To make this easier, buy a water bottle that is about a 3rd of your total for the day. Set yourself a goal of drinking one by 10am, one before you leave work or school, and then one before dinner. Setting small goals makes accomplishing something big much easier.
Rework your Schedule:
If you are feeling like a slave to your calendar, take some time to free yourself. Sit down with it and really evaluate each day and each commitment. Are these absolutely necessary? Or are you feeling obligated to schedule some of these tasks? Are there enough items in your calendar of things that you really enjoy to balance out the have-tos?
