Infrared Sauna
More information about our Infrared Sauna below!
An infrared sauna is a type of sauna that uses light to create heat. A traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air, usually by creating steam, which in turn warms your body. An infrared sauna heats your body directly, from the inside out, using infrared waves, -essentially the light from the sun, minus harmful UV rays.
Because of this heating method, an infrared sauna produces results at lower temperature than does a regular sauna. This, combined with a dry, versus steamy, environment allows for a more comfortable experience, and is a great option for those who cannot tolerate the heat of a traditional sauna.
Benefits of Infrared Saunas
Infrared saunas offer a variety of benefits, at a more tolerable temperature. They actually cause reactions similar to those elicited by moderate exercise, such as vigorous sweating and increased heart rate.
Sweating has a stigma of being a negative side effect of heat, however it is very beneficial. Sweating provides a natural detox for your body. It can eject things like mercury, and other metals and toxins. Dr. Aundrea Adams of the International Institute of Holistic Healing found that sweat from a traditional sauna was up to 97% water, while the sweat released in an infrared sauna was only 80-85% water. The remaining 15-20% was comprised of heavy metals, sulfuric acid, sodium, ammonia, uric acid and fat-soluble toxins.
Not only does this process purge toxins from fat cells, including chemical residues, it's also helpful in the destruction of cancer cells.
Because malignant cells are less tolerant than normal cells to a fluctuation in temperature, they begin to atrophy when the malignant tissue reaches 104–106 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to Amy Myers, MD, an internationally acclaimed functional medicine physician, "Infrared sauna therapy promotes relaxation by helping to balance your cortisol levels, the body's primary stress hormone. The heat generated by the sauna will also help relax muscles and relieve tension." Recent studies on continuous use of saunas have also found to help reduce high blood pressure, improve circulation and reduce pain in patients with fibromyalgia and chronic tension headaches.
